The girls have created an interview questionnaire. They practiced interviewing each other and then chose a family member or close friend to interview. They created treasure boxes to hold mementos of the person. The girls shared their experience and knowledge with one another. Enjoy the photos!

STEM
The 2nd grade has had a wonderful time exploring Owls as aSTEM and writing project. The children wrote from the OWLS POINT OF VIEW using their summer reading OWL MOON BY JAN YOLEN. The girls created a stem project from the book. They measured the wall outside the classroom, crunched paper to create textured bark, twisted paper to make the branches and used paper bags to create their OWLS. WHAT FUN.

WELCOME TO GRADE TWO
Dear Parents and Students,
I hope that you have had a wonderful, healthy, summer.
Second Grade is an extraordinary time for your daughters. We will be learning a tremendous amount in our classroom and having a great time doing it.
Please be aware that your daughters should be on line no later than 8:05. It will be an adjustment for all of us, but we will manage.
All assignments are due on Wednesday, September 4, 2013. We will work as a class on comparing and contrasting Owl Moon and The Owl and the Moon.
We will be reviewing addition and subtraction during September.
We will be beginning our Science with the phases of the moon, in order, to coordinate with our Summer Reading.
Social Studies will be spent with Community. We will start with our home and family community. BE READY FOR INTERVIEWS!
We will begin Religion by learning the Direction of Intention. This prayer is glued on the inside cover of the Homework Notebook. Please review this prayer every day with your child and in no time she will know it well. If you have any questions, please write a note and I will answer you as soon as possible.
Looking forward to seeing all of you on Parent Night September 25th at 7:00 p.m.

Second Graders tackle STEM!
Look at how much we are learning in STEM! We have created Ancient Greek pottery and worked on timelines of the time period.
We are becoming engineers. We are learning how to build truss bridges in STEM class and we will translate this to outside with a footbridge that we can walk across. Wish us luck!
