Freedom Quilt

The First Grade is in  the midst of learning about freedom quilts.   They have learned about the different squares and how they led the slaves to freedom.  The photos below show how the girls are  using different designs to "hide" the meaning of the squares.  Keep watching as the girls will  be designing a quilt of their own.

Non fiction graphic organizers and writing according to Teachers College

We read non fiction books with a partner.  We discussed the book with each other.  We drew our own graphic organizer and filled it in.  We took the words from our  organizers and wrote a non fiction report.

Pine cone experiment

We gathered pine cones from the yard. We brought the pine cones back into the classroom.  We made observations about the cones and took a seed from the cone and observed it.

We decided to put the open pine cones into water to see what they would do overnight.  We made the prediction that they would sink. Some of the girls decided they would shrink.  Can you guess who was right?
