SCIENCE IS TASTY

We froze strawberries and put them through the blender to make ice.  The first batch was chunky and delicious, but not all of us lliked.  We added fresh strawberries and water and it was more like a sorbet. Wwe added more water and fresh strawberries and we had a smoothie. We created physical and irreversible change.LOOK AT OUR PHOTOS

ANCIENT GREECE HERE WE COME

The Second Grade is very excited about beginning our quest to Ancient Greece.   We began our journey by reading fables. We  then decided to write our own fables!  It was great fun. The fables are displayed on our bulletin board outside our classroom.  We also included our own drawings.

We were interested about how the Greeks created their famous pottery.  We learned the location of clay deposits and how the potters used the clay.  We learned that moist clay and water, called  slip, was used as a kind of glue for the pots.  We have researched the different kinds of pots and have them displayed on our bulletin board.  We will be working with Mrs. Sarachman to create our own pots with Greek designs.  We cannot wait!

STEM

We are very excited about our STEM project.   The second grade is planning a home water filtration system.  There are photos below featuring some of the designs that the girls have  created.  The girls are also creating a step by step power point to accopany their project.  They will be using as many organic materials as possible to create the filter. Don't forget to join us on March 14, 2014!
